Annual General Meeting 2009
Turasóireacht Acla Teo (Achill Tourism) will hold its Annual General Meeting at Óstán Ghob A'Choire (Connaughton's, Achill Sound) on Thursday 10th September at 7.30pm.
All members, and prospective members, are invited to attend. Refreshments will be available.

Full Details Turasóireacht Acla Teo, or Achill Tourism, is a limited company that was formally incorporated in 1998 to continue the work of preceeding committees in promoting and developing the Achill area as a quality destination for visitors. Turasóireacht Acla is supported by the FÁS Community Enterprise Programme (CEP). It is also affiliated to Ireland West Tourism and works closely with Mayo Naturally. Membership of Achill Tourism is open to any business or enterprise that has an interest in the parish of Achill (Achill Island and the Curraun Peninsula). Members are also encouraged - but not required - to register with Failte Ireland. The services provided by Achill Tourism include:
- An information office at Cashel, which remains open all year around and provides fax, photocopying, laminating, printing, mail shot services and event ticket agents
- A satellite office located close to the beach at Keel, open during summer months
- Members can also display their literature in both offices
- A website - www.achilltourism.com - which is being continually developed and promoted. Traffic continues to grow (c. 17k visits per month); banner ads and web pages are available to members
- A new website - www.visitachill.com - has been developed in four languages Irish, English, French and German
- Group membership of VHI, Quinn and Vivas, which entitles you to 10% discount
- Marketing and promotion of Achill at shopping malls, in local and national newspapers, radio advertising etc
- Attended Heinrich Boll 50th Anniversary book launch in Cologne Germany, in conjunction with Failte Ireland
- Attending Cleveland, Ohio, USA promoting Achill in a joint venture with the twinning committee
- A Nomadic stand for use at promotions
- A more robust copy of the stand is available to members for their own promotions
- Festival and Activity promotions e.g. Achill Marathon, Scoil Acla, Swim Festival, Motor Rally, Walks Festival, Arts Festival, kite surfing Competition weekend and the O Neil Irish Wavesailing Tour Competition
- Co-operating with activity organisers and providing them with brochures and directories
- Producing and distributing books and brochures e.g. The Bilingual Guide to Walking in Achill, The Visitors Guide to Achill, The Tourist Directory, Achill 'Ireland West's best kept secret', Walking in Achill, Paul Henry's Achill Island and Deserted Village
- Production of a DVD to promote and market Achill as an activity destination
- Liasing with the tour operators, media, radio, TV, reporters, columnists, and filmmakers
- Lobbying of Mayo County Council, Councillors, TD's, and state bodies for improved tourism facilities
