Local entertainer James Kilbane, a member of Achill Tourism, was voted through all the way to the final of the RTÉ 'You're A Star' competition in March 2004. This televised competition sought to find Ireland's entrant for the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest. In the final show, James was pipped by the winner, Chris Doran. Achill Tourism would like to congratulate James for his tremendous performances throughout the competition, which brought a great deal of media attention to Achill. During the course of the competition the RTÉ cameras visited Achill several times, broadcasting images of the hills and beaches of Achill nationwide.
