From the Introduction: "When you cross Michael Davitt Bridge at Achill Sound another world awaits you. You will immediately be struck by the friendliness of the people who live there."
"In this book I have made an attempt to give a rare glimpse into life on Achill Island today, of its people as they live their lives, and I am also sharing with you some of their fascinating stories."
"Through my photographs I wanted to share with you some of the history and the culture that still survives today, like the music, old crafts, the fishing, and the unique and unspoilt landscape of the island."
"I hope you will find something in these pages to help you get a feel for this wonderful place that you may have visited already, or may visit in the future. The colours of the landscape at the height of summer or the depths of winer have to be experienced, as Achill only shows her true self then. I also hope that when you leave Achill you will have a greater understanding of the island and that this will bring you back again and again, just like myself. The old Irish saying céad míle fáilte is alive and well there still."
