Monday 17 March 2003: Marching with the Bands

The third day of the Achill Walks Festival offered a walk with a difference. It is a tradition on Achill that several of the villages have their own pipe bands, and that on St. Patrick's Day these bands will march between villages. For some of these pipers the day begins with reveille at 6am and continues until almost dusk. For walkers, this offers an opportunity to follow the bands during the day and join in this colourful tradition.
